- The Future of Education - Technology keeps moving forward and I have started to wonder what that means for education. I asked a friend of mine, who is working at developing an educational program for a few schools across the country, what he thought was coming in the future. He said that he could see a day that there are sensors in the brain of each student that are measuring whether or not the information was being understood. Immediate feedback. There is going to be more and more education that can be done online that students can direct themselves with teachers acting as facilitators. Kids can already Google any fact that a teacher is going to give in class. So what does that mean for education? I find this questions fascinating.
- Has Education Shifted to Favor Girls? - There was an article in the Deseret News a few years ago and talked about the growing disparity of girls who are completing their educational programs, whether it is high school or college, vs. boys. The number are in favor of the girls at every level. Why is that? Does our current educational system favor girls? Are their more special programs and initiatives bringing awareness to gender inequality in schools and have we overcompensated? These are questions that I don't know the answer to, but would like to explore.
- What Do Parents Want Schools to Teach Their Kids About Character?- With information and data being fairly democratized, what role does a school have in teaching how to use the information and the data? What role does the school have in teaching character traits that lead to success? Would parents prefer good high stakes testing results or students with strong character? Is there a way to measure character traits so that high stakes test scores are not the only measure of a school? Again, questions I would love to explore.
- High Stakes Testing, What Does Education Look Like Without it? - It is a hot topic and one that is not easy to come to consensus on. Do we need it? Are the results being used in the right ways? Are test scores a fair measure of teacher performance? What if we got rid of the high stakes testing. Would education get better or worse?
- Who is John Galt? - Who Are the Producers of Our Day and Do They Fit The Mold of John Galt? - I just read an article about a CEO who reduced his salary from $1,000,000 to $70,000. He is also raising the minimum salary at this company to $70,000. Is this a noble gesture? To be sure. Is it a good business decision? I have never had a salary of $1,000,000 or built a company that had $2.2 million in profits. So, I am not in a position to judge his decision. But is that something that John Galt would have done?
- The Greatness Test - Measuring Utah's Most Public Figures Against Entheos Academy's Characteristics of Greatness- At Entheos, our ninth graders study great people through the lens of seven characteristics of greatness. It would be fun to study the lives of some of our most visible and influential people in the state and how well they measure up to the characteristics of greatness.
- I Haven't Been Bored in 7 Years - How I did It - This is pretty simple actually. You simply choose to become fascinated.
- Why Does Everyone Want to Be Entertained Instead of Grow? - Yep, even me most of the time.
- What Is It About Cold Cereal That Sustains Us? - Seriously. I love cold cereal. Most of the people that I know love cold cereal. There are endless varieties in every supermarket. I bet everyone has a different reason. I am sure the companies know exactly what it is that they are doing that makes cereal, especially Reese's Peanut Butter Puffs, irresistible.
- Four Ideas That Can Increase Your Belief In Yourself - This is generally what I speak on when I speak to youth groups, especially young women. It boils down to how you think, what habits you develop, your ability to create and maintain healthy relationships and your commitment to keep commitments to yourself. Oh, and my belief that we all know One Thing that we can do that will make our lives better that we are not doing.
Let me know which of these you want me to research and write...
